The Cosmic Story: Gemini/Sagittarius Full Moon 2018

“The Moon likes secrets,”Meran said. “And secret things. She lets mysteries bleed into her shadows and leaves us to ask whether they originated from otherworlds, or from our own imaginations.” The Stone Drum, Charles de Lint.¹

This month’s Gemini/Sagittarius Full Moon is a storyteller Moon. It calls us to take a look at how our Mind works. How the words and images we live with every day shape our perceptions of the world. 

 

The Sagittarius Full Moon asks us to go on the quest for the secrets of our deepest truths, often hidden behind our words. So be prepared to have an adventure. The Gemini Sun scouts out the many possibilities and opportunities that are available to us, and our Sagittarius Moon bleeds her shadows on our lives and the world. The opportunity offered is to clear up and let go of old misguided beliefs. Beliefs that no longer serve our new needs. Beliefs that are bleeding us dry of our vitality, hope and vision.

Some perspectives arise out of a mixture of our fears and hopes. Some are rooted in our deepest heart truths. Use the sword of clear Mind to make your choices. It is the voice of our free will. We get to choose. Where do your values lie? What perspective rings the truth of your heart? Follow the pull of your heart to the mystery awaiting you. 

 

The magic of this Full Moon is that we get to explore the inner mysteries of our mind to find the next steps of our new story. As Bilbo Baggins sang,

“The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say” ²

We’re in it now. That mysterious new story. And because it’s a new story, we need to let go of the small story our society fed us and look to those bigger stories – the archetypal stories – to guide us on our way. (I’m going to begin a series of videos telling archetypal stories. You’ll find them on my blog, The Bard’s Grove, beginning next week.)

It’s time to live with and in magic – the real magic of Mother Earth. When we do, the first thing we encounter on our road into the future is the mysterious forest. All the best fairy tales have them! The place of trials and secret wisdom. A place where our mind needs to support our heart’s instincts.

The forest primeval. Remembered through the collective memory of every tree in the same way that people remembered myth – through the collective unconscious that Jung mapped, the shared mythic resonance that lay buried in every human mind. Legend and myth, all tangled in an alphabet of trees, remembered, not always with understanding, but with wonder. With awe.

Which was why the druids’ Ogham was also a calendar of trees. Why Merlin was often considered to be a druid. Why Robin (Hood) was the name taken by the leaders of witch covens. Why the Green Man had antlers – because a stag’s tines are like the branches of a tree. Why so many of the early avatars were hung from a tree. Osiris. Balder. Dionysus. Christ.

To create your new story, enter the forest of initiation and discover the mysteries hidden there. Each Tree embodies an individual’s soul life. Forests are ancient collectives of soul lives. They make up the alphabet of life. This next part of your story will take you into the trees. Find a forest and go explore! Listen to what the trees know about life. Ask for their wisdom.

Gemini and Sagittarius: Jupiter and Mercury

This Gemini/Sagittarius Full Moon involves using our Mind in different ways. Using both sides of the brain, paying attention to instincts and feelings, rational thought and intuitive knowing. It’s an opportunity for deep awareness, aided by the Full Moon occurring on two of our sky’s brightest stars: Aldebaran behind the Sun and Antares behind the Moon.

 

So let’s look at the many influences that shape this Full Moon: both the signs involved and their ruling planets, and at the fixed stars illuminating it.

Gemini takes the form that Taurus has shaped with Aries’ fire and tries to categorize it. What is it? Who is it? What can this form do? What does this shape suggest? How is the world changed by this new form? 

 

With Uranus in Taurus now, it’s time to shake things up and create new earth to live in and grow in. This Full Moon’s preceding New Moon was in Taurus and was shocked by Uranus’ entry into Taurus a few hours later. (Our inner lava flow?) What new land is appearing on your horizon? How will you steward it? 

 

The Gemini Twins are sometimes brothers and sometimes lovers. So the two are connected. This mutable sign has come to represent the ability to communicate, to listen and speak to others. To perceive others and the world and try to categorize what information is coming through. Gemini loves information – the Internet is Gemini’s brainchild, a movable library. 

 

Gemini is all about seeing and collecting experiences and information, and then disseminating what they’ve learned so everyone else can see it. Steven Forrest³ says that Gemini must give the universe permission not to make any sense. (Perhaps that’s where our Gemini president gets it from!). Gemini is most comfortable maintaining a wide-open, receptive state of consciousness. And then Gemini quickly makes connections. Everything is open for discussion, and Gemini gets to do what they do best: communicate. 

 

The ruling planet of Gemini is Mercury, the archetype of the Mind – usually understood as the left brain rational mind. Mercury is the planet of communication, business, messages, eloquence, boundaries and travelers. Mercury is known as the trickster. A fitting planet to symbolize the Mind. 

 

But his most important role is as the psychopomp, the guide of souls who traverses many dimensions. Which seems to indicate that the ancients saw the whole Mind – both right and left brains – as belonging to Mercury. Isn’t that what Mercury’s caduceus symbolizes – the duel energies of life which are needed for the Mind to take wing. When the Mind is not caught in up trivial pursuits, it is a wondrous gift. It becomes a tool of the creative imagination. 

 

Mercury takes on many roles in Gemini: communicator, newsperson, traveler, salesperson. But with Sagittarius opening the gates of higher consciousness, Mercury can also take on the role of psychopomp for us this Full Moon, leading us out of our 3D reality into greater realities. 

 

Mercury is in the last degree of Taurus at the Full Moon, grounding our thinking in sensual reality, while incorporating the new revelations it is receiving as Uranus energizes the whole Taurus field. It’s also conjunct the Gemini Sun, repeating the theme of the importance of the right use of the Mind. 

 

The Sabian symbol for Mercury at 30* Taurus is: A Peacock parading on the terrace of an old castle. The symbol indicates that it’s time to display our inherited gifts – inherited from our DNA ancestors as well as our past life ancestors. So think of your gifts and talents during your Full Moon meditation. Then give them to the Moon and see what you discover.

Our task is to travel through this forest-like landscape, and see it as a place of initiation. Your Mercury is standing by to guide you.

Sagittarius is the opposite of Gemini – opposite but complementary. Whereas Gemini is open to everything, giving it all equal value – it’s information about life – Sagittarius takes a wider view of things and out of that greater perspective, gleans the Truth. Or at least his truth. Sagittarius looks and asks the big questions. Why am I here? Who made me? What does it all mean? What is my purpose? Sagittarius is the sign of the Quest – the Quest for Truth, for Love, for Wisdom, for Meaning. 

 

The Truth–Seeker and Truth–Speaker, Sagittarius takes aim and sights in on his goal. We have stepped into the realm of archetypal truths, the cosmic laws of life. The deeper patterns of life that run through our lives. We get to ask at this Full Moon, What patterns are still at play in our psyches that no longer serve a new and deeper Truth?

Sagittarius is what happens when we go through our Scorpionic death and rebirth into a higher state of consciousness. The Phoenix arises within the fires of Sagittarius. 

 

Jupiter, the Lord of the Heavens, rules Sagittarius and is now traveling backward through Scorpio. Jupiter is an energy of expansion, hope, acceleration, luck, curiosity, and law. Most of all, Jupiter is the energy of faith, faith in ourselves and in a higher power. So the question is: what have we poured our faith into? And is it well-placed or misplaced there now?

This Sagittarius Full Moon is open to diving deeply into the subconscious to confront the Shadows that still remain. Jupiter is accelerating the release of old emotional traumas that have stopped us from stepping into our role as a change agents. Perhaps in the past you have paid dearly for being a change-maker. Perhaps being one brought on your death. Or perhaps you failed to bring about the change and despaired. All these patterns are locked away in our DNA. We’ve been working on releasing them. Jupiter is on the power gate of Scorpio, its nexus of power. See if there’s still a complex buried deep down that’s eluded you so far.

In ancient myth, Mercury was the messenger of Jupiter. So ground in the message by taking time to walk in Nature, meditate (in Nature), dance, sing, draw, journey. 

 

The Sabian symbol for Jupiter at 16* Scorpio is: A girl’s face breaking into a smile. That smile is one of a heart-felt delight at a subtle recognition of kinship, a sensual attraction or an imaginative leap. It might be that smile that discovers the mystery you’re searching for. A sense of wholeness and home.

The Full Moon falls on two fixed stars – two of the four ancient royal stars of Persia. The Sagittarius Moon joins Antares, the red heart of the Scorpion. The Gemini Sun joins another royal star, Aldebaran, the Eye of the Bull. The heart of the Scorpion is a warrior. The eye of the Bull is the 3^rd Eye of the Incarnate Spirit. These stars illuminate this Full Moon. Use their energies well. 

 

This is a great Full Moon to tell stories, to yourself or others. Communicate with beauty, joy and imagination!

The Sagittarius Full Moon

The Gemini/Sagittarius Full Moon occurs on May 29, 2018 at 7:19am PDT/ 10:19am EDT/ 2:19pm GMT.

The Sabian symbol for the Sun at 9* Gemini is: A quiver filled with arrows. What a great image for this Full Moon. Sagittarius arrows, Sagittarius goals. Aim for what you desire most.

The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 9* Sagittarius is: A mother leads her small child step by step up a steep stairway. This is a sign that our Great Mother is there to lead us in this journey to higher consciousness and evolutionary change. There is guidance if we just look for it. 

 

The Gemini Sun trines Mars and the South Node in Aquarius while the Sagittarius Moon sextiles them. These aspects can help us release old desires from the past. A new story needs new desires to drive it. With Mars in the shadow of his upcoming retrograde (June 26 – August 27) let’s get rid of old politically correct ideas of how to talk about our collective life and look at the truth of the situation.

The Sagittarius Moon forms part of a fire grand trine with the North Node in Leo and Chiron in Aries. There’s a lot of creativity available to forge a new identity based on our truth. Isn’t that what we’ve all been working toward?

There’s also a grand water trine activated at this Full Moon between Jupiter in Scorpio, Neptune in Pisces and Venus in Cancer. What a loving energy to heal our wounds! 

 

Both grand trines form a 6-pointed star, a Solomon’s Seal of fire and water. The union of the emotional and spiritual bodies is a symbol of the heart chakra.  As Rumi says, Love is the Water of Life.  And a Lover is a soul of Fire.  The Universe turns differently when Fire Loves Water.  

  

 So even though this is a very mental Full Moon, we have to start with the Heart and then use the Mind to discover what blockages we have to following the Heart. This will be our journey in the forest of initiation.

Saturn and Vesta retrograde in Capricorn oppose Venus and Pallas in Cancer and they both square Juno in Aries. Our sacred contract is to rebirth our culture through a loving, nourishing strategy that springs from new concepts of relationship. 

 

So this Full Moon, listen within to the Voice of Spirit. Don’t let the small, rational mind get in your way. The higher Mind is the vehicle for Spirit’s messages.

Urano en Tauro

La Luna Nueva en Tauro de este mes está energizada por la entrada de Urano en Tauro. Cuando la Madre Tierra es impregnada por el Padre Cielo, nace vida nueva. Por lo tanto nuestra nueva historia de creación comienza a tomar forma debido a que nuevas energías arquetípicas pueden echar raíces ahora y comenzar a crecer. Tauro

Tauro también está preocupado por nuestra autoestima y nuestros talentos. Con esta Luna Nueva, podemos plantar intenciones para ayudarnos a desarrollar nuestros talentos únicos. También es un buen momento para trabajar con nuestros sentidos, que a menudo se cierran o reprimen en nuestra rígida sociedad. ¿Cuántos de nosotros somos realmente sensuales? Hathor

El cambio llega cuando dejamos atrás nuestra racionalización del hemisferio izquierdo cerebral y abrimos nuestra imaginación en el hemisferio derecho. Esto es lo que tenemos que volver a aprender o mejor dicho recordar, si realmente queremos descubrir el Espíritu en la materia. Tenemos que relacionarnos con nuestro mundo en un nivel de sentimiento y sensaciones. Y al sentir, no me refiero a emociones como la ira, los celos o la felicidad. Me refiero a la función de sensitiva que Carl G. Jung describe como proceso cognitivo con el cual evaluamos personas y situaciones en un nivel de sensaciones. Al igual que la relación que Tauro tiene con los valores, podemos sentir donde está la salida de aquello que sentimos nos atrapa o afecta.

Entonces, esta Luna Nueva en Tauro, junto con la entrada de Urano en Tauro horas después, nos ofrecen la oportunidad de expandir nuestra conciencia dando valor a este sentido sensorial que puede profundizar nuestras experiencias de vida. Tauro Luna Nueva 2018

La Luna Nueva en Tauro ocurre el martes 15 de mayo de 2018 a las 4:48 a.m. PDT / 7:48 a.m. EDT / 11:48 a.m. GMT y 6:48 a.m. hora central de México.

El símbolo Sabiano para el Sol y la Luna en 25* sobre Taurus simboliza: Un gran parque público. Este parque es un lugar de disfrute colectivo, un lugar para experimentar las energías de la naturaleza para la relajación y la comunidad. Ellos nos llaman a conectarnos con la naturaleza en comunidad y encontrar en ellas relajación, disfrute y hermandad. Aunque Mientras que pasar tiempo en la naturaleza no será posible para algunos, hay lugares a nuestro alrededor donde podemos conectarnos con la Madre Tierra.

Uranus Enters Taurus

Awakening Earth Consciousness

Uranus in Taurus

This month’s Taurus New Moon is energized by Uranus’ entry into Taurus. When Mother Earth is impregnated by Father Sky, new life is born. Our new creation story begins to take shape. New archetypal energies can take root now and start to grow. The Earth herself awakens and so do we. The Aries fire that Uranus has been cooking in for the past 7 years will now engender new forms of being – both personally and collectively – as it journeys through Taurus from May 15 – November 6^th 2018 and for the next 7 years starting in March 2019.

When Uranus changes signs, major world events occur. Back when Uranus left Pisces and entered Aries on March 11, 2011, there was the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, triggering the Fukushima nuclear disaster (Pisces water and Aries fire). Perhaps the explosion of Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano this week is a foreshadowing of some of the Earth changes coming our way (Aries fire and Taurus earth). 

 

With Uranus’ propensity for unexpected shocks and radical innovations, it’s best to prepare yourselves for major external changes. Uranus, the Great Awakener, rules freedom, reformers, rebels, liberation, higher consciousness and the archetypes, as well as science and technology. As the archetype of the higher Mind, one geared toward the future, its energy will bring us unique and original ideas that can move our society into the future. It certainly shakes up the status quo, infusing us with the fires of the heavenly, archetypal Mind, rebelling against rules that no longer apply.

Taurus is the fixed earth sign, the form-giver, the builder. Taurus loves stability and consistency and does not like change! Uranus is the cosmic life force of change. With this combination, we can play and build something new, something unique, something archetypal in our 3D world over the next 7 years. Or we can struggle to keep the status quo, only to find that what we thought was stable will shatter if it can’t bend. 

 

Work with Uranus in Taurus by making small changes in your habits. Learn something new, change your hairstyle, get rid of things you don’t love. Get in your body and exercise, dance, plant a garden. It will relieve tension and open you up to new energies. This is the energy that will get you out of your rut if you work with it. If you fight the change, it will disrupt your life and take away what you think you need. But in the end it will bring you to the place you want to be.

Find Taurus in your birth chart and see where this awakening power is taking root for you. Be open to the unpredictable and the unknown. In America’s 4^th of July chart, this New Moon occurs in the 6^th house of work and workers, health, service, and the common man. Let’s see if we get people back to work on our infrastructure and health care.

Taurus

 

Taurus is symbolized by the Bull of the Mother, the pulsing, throbbing, desiring energy of Life. Taurus is concerned with values, the values that make life worth living. Taurus is also concerned with our self-worth and our talents. With this New Moon, we can plant a seed to help us develop our unique talents. It’s also a good time to work with our senses, which are often shut down in our plastic society. How many of us are really sensual? Our religions have make sensuality a sin. It’s time to develop a new relationship to our senses, for they can teach us about life in this time of change.

Hathor

In ancient Egypt, this was the Golden Calf belonging to the goddess Hathor. Hathor was the goddess of joy, music, dance, love, fertility and motherhood, worshipped in her form of the divine cow or as a woman with horns surrounding the Sun disk and Uraeus. A later form of the original Sun goddess, Sekhmet, she is a fitting goddess for Taurus, for Taurus wants to enjoy the beauty and sensuality of life. Taurus does this because it knows that life itself is a form of Spirit and that Mother Earth is alive and conscious. 

 

Taurus is also symbolized by the Garden. The Garden of sensual delight, of peace and fertility, the Garden paradise we all long for. We can reclaim our connection to this earthly paradise when we listen to and observe the world around us and understand how it feels to us. Relating to our environment and the Earth through our senses cause us to understand things through our feeling nature.

 

We are called to deepen our consciousness, widening it so we can learn to listen to and respond to Earth’s dreaming. The shift comes when we leave behind our left-brain rationality and open to our right-brain imagination. In feeling the deeper realities in life, in a story, in Nature, we are opening the doors of perception in ways we haven’t done since early childhood. 

 

Our feeling sense is what we use when we listen to music or drop into a good story or fall in love. It’s not something we can easily put into words, but it writes itself in our bodies and our feeling nature. Every physical object evokes a different feeling that makes it uniquely itself. It is through our feeling sense that we access information from our visual, auditory, olfactory senses. How something feels helps us access the metaphysical background of the world.¹

Stephen Harrod Buhner in his book, ¹Plant Intelligence and the Imaginal Realm, calls this feeling dimension the secret kinesis of things, something sensed beyond the visual, tactile dimension of the experience. This is what we have to relearn if we really want to discover the Spirit in Matter. We have to relate to our world on a feeling level. And by feeling, I don’t mean emotions such as anger, jealousy or happiness. It’s Jung’s feeling function, where we evaluate people and situations on a feeling level. 

 

Like Taurus’ relationship to values, we get to feel out what affects us. 

 

So this New Moon in Taurus, with Uranus’ entry into Taurus hours later, offers us an opportunity to expand our consciousness by giving value to this feeling sense that can deepen our experiences of life. We need it if we’re going to honor Mother Earth and listen to her wisdom.

Taurus New Moon 2018

The Taurus New Moon occurs on Tuesday May 15, 2018 at 4:48am PDT/ 7:48am EDT/ 11:48am GMT.

The Sabian symbol for the Sun and Moon at 25* Taurus is: A vast public park.

This park is a place of collective enjoyment, a place to experience nature’s energies for relaxation and community. While going into the wild might not be available for everyone, there are places all around us where we can connect with Mother Earth.

 

Venus, the ruler of Taurus, is at 26* Gemini. Her Sabian symbol is: Frost-covered trees against winter skies. There’s something archetypal about bare trees in Winter, as well as the immediate experience of the cycle of the seasons. We have to get to the essential nature of things – ourselves, the Earth, each other. Venus is joined by Pallas, the strategist, so find your allies and plot your course into the new world that’s on the horizon.

This New Moon forms the waning square of last August’s Total Solar Eclipse – a time to find those essential seeds we want to bring into the next cycle of life. If the eclipse heralded a new feeling birth – A Mermaid emerges from the ocean waves ready for rebirth in human form – this New Moon indicates that we have to connect to our essential nature and Earth’s nature to shape that new form. With Uranus’ entry into Taurus, make sure your new birth is uniquely your own.

The New Moon is opposed by Jupiter retrograde in Scorpio, demanding that we stop projecting our issues and own our shadows. It also calls us out of our collective trauma and into a renewed sense of hope and love. Nature heals. Even the shadow. If you’re in relationship, it’s time to acknowledge if your partner is enhancing your life or draining it. Partnerships are supposed to bring out the best in us, each partner feeding the other’s best interests. If they’re not, perhaps it’s time to take a break and recenter yourself in your Self.

Jupiter in Scorpio trines Neptune in Pisces, so our imagination and our spiritual vision will be open. This New Moon wants us to imagine a different world, one of peace, plenty and community. It’s a good time to meditate on that future.

The New Moon is enhanced by both Pluto and Mars in Capricorn, adding their dynamism to the forms we imagine we want to create. Mars is our will and desire nature, our assertion and aggressive instincts. Pluto is evolutionary power, like the lava flowing in Hawaii. When they work together, nothing can stop them. Or they can cause frustration and annoyance. What do we need to make our life whole? What will give us the most pleasure and joy? Don’t be afraid to go for it.

 

Mars enters Aquarius hours after the New Moon and makes the first of 3 squares to Uranus in the early hours of May 16^th. Since Mars rules Aries, perhaps we’ll see the results of Uranus’ time in Aries. Have you awakened to your archetypal purpose? Do you know who you are and what gifts you bring to the collective? Or it can bring about war and tensions, which we’re already seeing around the world regarding Iran. Mars turns retrograde on June 26^th and it will revisit these degrees to make sure we got our directions straight. How do you envision your future life? Start to see the big picture now so you can make the right choices for that new life.

Saturn and Vesta in Capricorn trine Mercury in Taurus conjunct Uranus. These energies will hopefully temper Uranus’ erratic nature and help us see what we need to do in order to ground in our visions. 

 

Stay centered in your inner Self and grounded in the Earth. While the world seems to be descending into chaos, know that you are the one grounding in the stillpoint, the center. That’s the real security that Taurus craves.
